huge hands like gamebirds

I'm on for Viable Paradise!

And my dad paid for the rescheduling of my flight! So anxiety has been reduced to a dull roar. I'm now free to be happy about it, which is great, and I am happy about it, which is greater.

Writing News: I'm working with rebel schoolkids in both my main projects. It's hard to be working with such similar topics. I do more than one project at a time so I can change it up, and while sympathetic strands work themselves in, this is the first time it's been on such similar lines. Not to mention that I'm working with such different vocabs for each.
Both are hugely fun. I just need to work on editing grim non-schoolyard drama in between.

Let's see. Coyote Dreams review poem?

I love being weird.

Daughter of the Forest--Sevenwaters Trilogy

[info]shanna_s has been talking about Archetypes in heroes, and how the Best Friend isn't usually considered hot, etc. I find personality stuff fascinating, so I've been soaking it up (though, not being a romancer, I never actually read anything about these) but I think, I just might have found a very, very good example of the Best Friend as hero.

Red (Hugh)

Eyes of deep sky, blazing behind secret
And blood-warm heart that found the land's spirit
When it might have denied it reality
Found the living in it worth the agony.
Anger hidden in love too strong to hurt
And love buried in protection, behind anger.

Sevenwaters, bind the peoples to me
There lies a brethren across the sea
There lurks a kindred beyond the wood
And in our wars a painful brotherhoood
That is one in blindness to themselves and beyond
May my silence that stings prick out pride and bond.

I am Sorcha, I am Jenny, I am mother to Naihm
And Liadan--fateful fruit of a mixing of kind.

And I am wife to Hugh, the unson of Sevenwaters,
Sister to the unheir sons of my faltered father.

Daughter of the Forest

Hugh comes in like a warrior, chief of men, and sure of pleasing women--but for Sorcha, he is the lover who can wait for her wounded silence to end, and can give that all up just for the company of his heart.
Simon, his brother, is a Lonely Soul. It's very ambiguous whether he could have been her mate...on purpose. This is literary fantasy, after all. Gorgeous.
I'm very glad it had a definite ending. After all, my library couldn't possibly have the next on in the trilogy. >.<

hook.hate.

But Red is very happy with how the latest writing sessions have gone. Win some, lose some. In this case, artists in salon-esque conversation and encountering seeming crack-cases--always wins.

I've been involved with a "Fantasy Book Club" at my tiny library lately. I tend to be rather dauntingly talkative, I think. Being near drinking age is just generally too cool to be born, maybe. But it's fun. It's a chance to get out, and caffeinate myself way to late in the day to get any real sleeping done.

WebMage came up. Another guy had read it, and I just took up where he left off, detailing the lovely characterization, the deeper greatness of modernized fate-threads, and the sweeter elvishness...well, no, he'd already covered that. Here, a tribute:

Eris--
Destruction
and seduction.
You wear it well.
Poet's shirt and leather pants,
Virgin's appeal--seductress' spiel
Where does the game get off?
In your nightmare cosmos house
There is nothing less than passion killed
And a laugh at the sacrifice spilled
But we will miss you.
Will you miss Raven?
You built him hope
and maybe not all for your ends
Because you are for inconstancy.
Eris:
You wear it well.

The only thing better than book-review-in-poem? One that stars a minor character to thematically sum up. I love blogging to an empty world...
