The Bard wavers, caught in a merciless downpour...

I was already a little gray from physical ailments, but as I was sitting in a dead funk, writing a post to the Writer's Digest forums I suddenly realized...

"I have justification to feel a little depressed! I had my first real agent rejection today!"
Funny how the weirdest things can make you feel better.

I'd submitted to Miss Snark (same story, different hook, which I'm thinking was a mistake, considering the revised vs. all new versions now) but I knew she was just going to scrawl WTF? or something worse at the top. I actually think Ms. Vater was a little more ruthless. AAAAND I've had her on my list for submission, so her criticism was the real stuff.

But I learned something. Especially since there were plenty who got positive feedback from other submitters/readers, and mine was not one of them. That is good information. It was not just Rachel Vater's veteran eye of world- (or word-) weary savvy that didn't find it hooking.

The one I'm wondering about now I did like some of the sentences in the other one, though. {edit~inserted some for an all-new conglomerate! >sigh<}

Well, off to savagely undermine my literary (i.e. solitary) pity-party with ironic self-deprecation...and hook murder...
