I tell myself stories in the dark

Etsy Finds, Part I

I've been working on my yarn business again lately.  This means time on Etsy,  (oh perilous place, and sly) and trying to network my way into sales.

I've discovered quite a few things to love along the way. Backfiring? I don't know... having things I want to buy, to motivate me to do better at selling isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Right?
Right?!

This is my latest listing: Under River Aracthus, titled after a scene in The Thief by Megan Whalen Turner.

I'd like to sell this so I can buy:
That Old Black Magic by ButterflyGirlDesigns
...even though I'm planning to create some very similar batts to make a Raven King yarn. (Jonathan Strange & Mr Norrell are neither of them the main interest in that book, you know.)

In tag surfing, to kind of see how my items are comparing, and who is doing similar things, I come across the greatest random geek stuff. (That tag is "geekery".)

Fawkes, fiery handspun by msfledermaus

Mallorn, which you can see here, by Authentic Fiction

This one's no longer available, but it's name/color combo was PERFECT.
Bert and Ernie by Ethical Threads

GuttersnipeYarn for sure does not need *my* press, but how awesome is she? Let me count the ways:

~ She does "Costume Flick" yarns. This means... Austen characters. She has a Wickham yarn. She has a Harriet Smith yarn.
Yes, this is fabulous, and my envy is part awe.
~ She also has a whole Sweeney Todd category, which is awesome because the color scheme of the movie was, from what I can tell without watching it. ^_^
~ She does Steampunk yarn with Stuff to put in.

Lydia Bennett, Violets Between the Cobblestones, and Glitzy Sweeney, respectively.

I think I'm going to have to postpone my non-yarn favorites sharing until another time, but look forward to it. There's photography, jewelry, and...Lego Wizard keychains.

Rewriting.

Now THIS feels like beating my brains out on the keyboard.

I rarely have it feel this hard when I'm writing, and I guess I'm lucky. When I'm rewriting short stories it doesn't always feel like pushing through an invisible wall of the consitency of that tacky glue with only the strength of my thoughts. (My thoughts are neither sharp, nor Hurcules. This is not much fun.)

But I needed to do this. I've known it and have been neatly dodging the issue in most of the book. Or just working up to it. Yeah, that's a more positive take, and likely as accurate. >,<

I did a little work on cleaning up tags but didn't tackle any of the biggies. Still not sure if I'm going to have a tag-bar longer than my posts on the front page, but we'll see.

Back to rewriting, there is a sort of exhilaration when you cut to the quick and start rebuilding something that fits the real vision of the story.
But still, brains would be leaking out my ears if I weren't taking copious breaks.
Maybe I'll get better at this? The blogging of Veteran Authors does not offer much hope on this, though...

So me and my siblings recreated a matinee of Star Wars today. I think it was only my third time seeing it, and the first in a long time, maybe 6 years, because while I remember the story just fine, and even dialogue, I didn't really remember the details at all. Lots of the memory is what I've heard and recalled imperfectly, I'm sure.

Anyway. It was cool to see it with new genre-savvy eyes.
And Han Solo?
Well, I'd remembered he was cool, but...
don't mind my speechlessness over here.

I got a rejection for a poem and sent it right out again. I'm holding up that side of this VP bargain! What next? I don't know. I should be revising...

Oh, and I finished the Wild Cards book PNH sent me. That's apparently due out this year. It was very fun, and had that head-long zigzag feel of a collaborative novel where different people are taking on the plot.
Boy do I have so much work to do...

tyhpo of the day;; "Odd as it is, I like quests."    Now there's a mistake to redirect. What a great line! The correct version (I like guests) is necessary to the plot, but not half as flavorful.

I wrote nothing of Aolon, for the second day in a row. Tomorrow will be a third. It's in the saggy middle, between the last two crisis points. It's emotional development/incidentals tied up time. Grraow. Boring. I only write little bits because I'm packing it in to save any future readers.

However, my latest B&tB attempt seems rather gorgeous to me. It's up by half again, and half done. Seditious Intent also gained a major plot-turn, in good wordage. Next week we will work hard, I guess. I've plenty reading to get done, also.

Also, my contest is running quite amusingly well.
